A Long Walk on a Shortened Pier

Sandy kept her distance and our thoughts turned to those northeast of us, who may not be so lucky to see the gentle side of Sandy like we did.

But Sandy let her presence be known and the pier will be under repairs for some time to come.

We made it to the Pier on Sunday - a beautiful, sunny, vibrant day.

Smile!

Looking North, the waves were powerful and intense. The perspective from the pier, puts you right on top of the waves. That in itself, is an amazingly powerful and intense place to be!

The boys met the only fisherman, er, fisherboy that was catching anything.
Him and his grandmother filled a coolerful of Whiting.
Looking South now.

The waves had this almost eerie build up!

   Crash and Burn!

The best part??
The smiles of an evening walk are priceless.

So are the memories.

Saturday's Sandy Pics

Me and the boys took a walk at suppertime to see the last of Sandy before she heads Northeast.
We just missed missed getting on the pier - Tide was coming in and if we were 5 minutes earlier, we may have been allowed!
But we totally enjoyed our walk.
The waves were still huge, but not all crazy like earlier. Surfers were even getting some rides in, and getting a talking-to by the police when they rode ashore.
The sun began to set and the sky took on some amazing colors. Peach. Magenta. Yellow. Gold.

The pier took on some damage from what we can tell. Floorboards buckled and missing railings. Only half of it was open today - and it surprised us that we actually saw people with fishing poles out there!
As the sun set on Sandy, it did so in glorious colors.

We have friends and family in the path of Sandy as she heads Northeast. Our prayers are with you.

Waking Up with Sandy.

Waking up with Sandy.
Paul brought coffee.
High Tide and Sunrise at 7:26 this morning.

We had a huge high tide. No Sunrise.

She toyed with us and made a mess. But nothing scary.

But Sandy made her presence known - pretty powerful!

Notice the damage to the Pier.

Winds changed and the hoodies came out!

The goal this afternoon is to see if we can get on the pier!

Hurricane Sandy's Blowing By

Heard we had a pretty powerful visitor passing by Florida over the next couple of days.
Thought I'd stop on my way home from work this evening and see if I could catch a glimpse.
Her name is Sandy.
Heard she may even be hooking up with some Frankenstorm guy later.
I never did get to actually see Sandy, but it appears she likes to make her presence known.

Sounds like she's gonna stick around for a day or two.
I might just wake up a bit early and see what kind of trouble she's gotten herself into throughout night.

She's keeping her distance, but it's evident, this visitor packs a lot of clout.

Air Show, Jacksonville Beach 2012

This was a great long weekend. This felt like what living in Jacksonville Beach is supposed to feel like.

(Minus the part of Michele was running topless down the beach chasing the Blue Angels and writing TAKE ME WITH YOU in big letters the sand...haha)

But spending a weekend with your family and your best friends on the beach...great weather...frisbee...fun...food...four days off...catching up, and enjoying friendships that feel like family.

Friday and Saturday, the boys acted like frightened school girls and everytime a jet flew over, they dove for the ground and covered their ears, begging for help from the fetal position. Michele was not impressed.

By Sunday though, they made it through the Navy's F-22. This jet was impressive. It was almost prehistoric looking. Loud as hell and could turn on a dime. That is, if it's possible to have a dime suspended in the seabreeze a thousand feet in the air - this F-22 could make that turn. At, what? 800 miles per hour? Every picture I took was blurry. Way, WAY cool to watch. It rattled your ribcage.

Blue Angels. Amazing. Tight. Fast. They'd sneak up on you and blow by with a scream, a howel, a rushing vroom that sucks the insides of your body to the skin. And then they'd surprise you with this delicate flowery looking starburst that looks so cool and imaginative - until you realize that they are sky-rocketing themselves directly at each other at over 800 miles per hour. Tight. And Fast.

My inner child loves the Blue Angels. What a great long weekend.

The Ying:
Campeche Bay. Cook-out on the patio. Murf & Paul working on their World's Freestyle routine. Omelettes. Avacados. Milano's Pizza. Margaritas. Ellen's. Michele's Sunday Night Dinner. YUM.

The Yang?
Throwing my back out - seriously - never in all my years of jamming have I left a jam with an injury - which includes a broken bone once in Monterey. But Saturday...I twisted something and fell to my knee. My hip. My back. It felt like half my pelvis broke off and dropped. Put me on the 90-Day DL.

The Ying. And the Yang.

But again -- What a great long weekend. This is what living in Jacksonville Beach is supposed to feel like.

Air Show Weekend

It is the Air Show Weekend. It is one of the best weekends of the year. Murf flew in tonight from SD - I can't wait to see him in the morning. Yankees got swept. it has been a great night.

Fat Albert & The Blue Angels. Friday. Saturday. And Sunday. On the beach.

Wait - Yikes.  Hopefully not ON the beach, but ABOVE the beach.

They practiced today, and Michele said they almost clipped the trees in our yard, they were that close. How rare is that? 600 miles per hour of loudness literally on top of your head?

I have Friday off and Monday off.

How rare is that?  :)

Pics to follow!
